the nba draft just finished today and here they are: (pardon to the dscommenters if i made it my own post instead of a comment) Boston Celtics: J.R. Giddens, Bill Walker (via Washington), Semih Erden - not bad. athleticism is improving. would have preferred cdr over giddens, but if there is a team that can take care of him, the celtics can with those shiny rings and the PGA tour. Charlotte Bobcats: D.J. Augustin, Alexis Ajinça, Kyle Weaver - first two are question marks considering the situation (especially dj with regards to raymond felton). i like kyle weaver. Chicago Bulls: Derrick Rose, Ömer Aşık (via Portland) - great draft. they can keep the turkish guy overseas to ripen. next step will be to relieve the backcourt. Cleveland Cavaliers: J.J. Hickson, Darnell Jackson (via Miami), Sasha Kaun (via Seattle) - still not convinced they improved a bit. i dunno what danny ferry is up to exactly. the clock ticks and brooklyn beckons. Dallas Mavericks: Shan Foster - shooter, but do they have room? Denver Nuggets: Sonny Weems (via Chicago) - added backcourt size. maybe jr smith's replacement Detroit Pistons: Walter Sharpe (via Seattle), Trent Plaisted (via Seattle), Deron Washington - typical piston selections. Golden State Warriors: Anthony Randolph, Richard Hendrix - more toys for the madcap don nelson, but all eyes on the pending free agent status rather Houston Rockets: Donte Greene (via Memphis), Joey Dorsey (via Portland), Maarty Leunen - more scoring Indiana Pacers: Brandon Rush (via Portland), Nathan Jawai (soon to be in Toronto) - rebuilding is in full swing. Los Angeles Clippers: Eric Gordon, DeAndre Jordan, Mike Taylor (via Portland) - i like the draft. solid pick on gordon, took a flyer on jordan and made a play for taylor (to resolve 3rd string point possibility) Los Angeles Lakers: Joe Crawford - meh pick. Memphis Grizzlies: O.J. Mayo (via Minnesota), Darrell Arthur (via New Orleans and Portland) - star power Miami Heat: Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers (via Minnesota) - two problems resolved. not bad, dont ya think? plus, beasley is the best player in the draft. Milwaukee Bucks: Joe Alexander, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute - two players who fit the scott skiles profile. Minnesota Timberwolves: Kevin Love (via Memphis), Nikola Peković - mchale loves the nephew of the beach boy. nice complementary piece. New Jersey Nets: Brook Lopez, Ryan Anderson, Chris Douglas-Roberts - all we need now is to see when vince carter will be traded, so that the campaign to bring the kaiser in 2010 begins. New York Knicks: Danilo Gallinari - i believe this 19-yr old italian will have a much better career than the other 19-yr old italian. nice fit in the NYC Orlando Magic: Courtney Lee - japeth's team mate will be a great fit for stan van gundy Philadelphia 76ers: Marreese Speights - need pick. but he's good. but can someone knock some sense into him. Phoenix Suns: Robin Lopez, Goran Dragić (via San Antonio) - this draft signals the end of the d'antoni era. no way sideshow bob would be taken if mike was still around. Portland Trail Blazers: Jerryd Bayless, Nicolas Batum (via Houston) - smart selection again. portland is back in business. Sacramento Kings: Jason Thompson, Sean Singletary, Patrick Ewing Jr. - kings going with potential in thompson and ewing. i don't think the kings will be going up anytime soon. San Antonio Spurs: George Hill, Malik Hairston (via Phoenix), James Gist - another case of meh, but we might see george hill as tony parker's backup once he gets the necessary skills from the d-league and jacque vaughn. Seattle SuperSonics: Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, D.J. White (via Detroit), DeVon Hardin - nice pieces, but the sonics are not going anywhere. let's see what 2009 brings in the lottery. and i still have my doubts on westbrook. i prefer jerryd. Toronto Raptors: Roy Hibbert (soon to be in Indiana) - either way, they get tougher in the lowpost with either hibbert or jawai (and JO). Utah Jazz: Kosta Koufos, Ante Tomic, Tadija Dragicević - typical utah draft. they'll stash the 2nd rounders away. koufos won't be much of an impact right now until memo breaks down. Washington Wizards: JaVale McGee - depth, but priorities are agent zero and antawn at this point. Draft winners: Nets, Clippers, Blazers, Heat, Timberwolves Draft Losers: Bobcats, KingsFriday, June 27, 2008
The 2008 NBA draft as i see it.
