Go time.
in a few hours, war will erupt.
a sea of blue, a sea of green. but there is no yellow submarine.
only a title. a championship.
in the end, ateneo ALWAYS prevails.
even with the ticketing brouhaha.

roll out the victory, we ask for nothing more (than a championship)
saw three sensational spectacles over the past few hours.
first thing was how tailback U (so cal) beat OSU (without beanie).
one note: they did this with osu missing beanie (so they have a convenient excuse to fall back on)
second: the UAAP finals is set. and WE WANT LA SALLE. and The Ateneo always prevails.
(keep in mind that this is my blog, so my rules apply here).
Game 1 on 9/25. good luck with tickets
third: sebastian vettel won the italian grand prix (youngest person ever. first win for STR - the team formerly known as Minardi). next stop: the night race. those who are in singapore that weekend, please take pictures and post them. i am relishing the thought.
sidelights:
mini-reunion with old night team. best.team.ever? perhaps. since no one ever did try working while playing Uno.
rain postponements: no eastwood gigs resulting from marce. (hope people in stateside are ok with ike)
no friday gig: i caught up with some old acquaintances that resulted in myself walking from riverbanks to riverpark on the paved river walkway.
lastly: This is the Ateneo way. Win or lose, it's the school we choose. Whatever happens, we are the best.
p.s.: Concert Series feat Nina @ Podium monday. Sitti @ Metro bar on the 19th.

Oktoberfest: a Semi-Charmed (Night) Life
as most of you know, i do not drink beer. i prefer drinking non-alcoholic ones. you are probably wondering why i am talking about an event that celebrates the beverage. well, oktoberfest is not just all about beer, it is about having a good time. beer drinking is best enjoyed with friends and buddies. i met some of these barkadas while at the event. some of those were fine ladies whom i wish were single and available.
how did i get the tix? i would like to profusely thank blogger icon azrael (of http://azraelsmerryland.blogspot.com fame) for the opportunity. powwow muna kami sa mcdo el pueblo to get the pass and have dinner. i remember az's happy meal episode and decided to have one as well. i bought a Darth Vader and (my nemesis at RX) Yoda. they are currently at home, unopened. i probably get some test shots of them soon.
we left mcdo around 8pm and while walking i can distinctly hear sarah marco's voice. yes, taken by cars was on the 3eb stage while walking the uber-long san miguel avenue all the way to LSM. the entrance is located there with matching VIP entrance. i saw the start of the beer bar (which is a world record of 603.5 meters) different food establishments helped out in getting this done. i saw padi's tapa king, gilligan's, etc. got to the first stage where Sam Y G is introducing Sugarfree. i love this band (i kinda felt bad i missed out on their live album launch at Dencio's CCP). *is it just me or did i just hear ebe say ely at some point in that gig* walking parallel to the bar, we encountered the reggae stage, where cosmic love was finishing their set (i saw them at backdoor) this stage had Karl McFly as host.
droves of people were in this event. as in droves. i was wishing for a souvenir item (i would so love to have that hat). saw famillar faces (eehgow, sandro, kate, joao and issa, to name a few) and met new people. i managed to enter the media zone where there was good food (yup. sarap ng sisig at chicken at fish) i asked for and secured az's consent to proceed to the main stage and strut my stuff. saw rivermaya do their thing. yes, jayson rocked the show (and tin gamboa would be so giddy). yes, migz with a z was there. he still remembers me and flashed the new (old) 99.5 RT sticker. RT is back again. saw az and rg with lace. derek and monica (of NU if i am correct) hosted this stage gamely and fun (i did not realize that derek and angelica broke up already, good thing i did not know). the traditional opening ceremonies were done by Ramon Ang of SMC and Mayor Ben-Hur Abalos (the son of burjer icon Ben Abalos). fireworks commenced and Rivermaya sang the 2008 Oktoberfest theme song. The Bloomfields then rocked the house with their old-school feel then followed by the new school beats of the Out of Body Special (with matching fire zips). games (where a certain blogger icon made himself known) interspersed these performances. a dance performance (which made us a little bit antsy) preceded the main event.
and what a main event it was. yes, as what stephen jenkins said, they dragged themselves out of their recording studio to fly here to play a "gig" and set a world record. third eye blind rocked the house. you can see it, feel it. it was just amazing. i was literally a few feet from the stage. amazing. plus they played their hits and a couple of new songs for their upcoming album. grabe. it was really something worth remembering. (although it is kinda hard to top off the 8/30/08 gig) if you thought the VIP are tough, what more lies at the other side of the barricade. bouncers have a tough life. anyway, the audience were singing along, and rocking out. some took pictures and videos (secretly after the second song as bouncers were strict). others just rocked on.... their last song was so befitting. it was entitled the god of wine. too bad my camera was finished before the set ended (jumper took forever to finish)
afterwards, everybody filed out. i went out as well and i bumped into lala (a.k.a my monday gal). she just came from backstage and she was gushing about her experience being with stephen jenkins. her gig has not yet started (thank God). so i decided to help her out with her gig (thank God for the pass). mark (her pianist) asked me to shoot some songs using his video recorder (just like monday). i also took pics with her camera. her gig was sandwiched between the kitty girls (who are jaw dropping hot) and mocha (who i just realized got themselves scandalized due to some girl-on-girl action). btw, that stage is helmed by Slick Rick. again, too bad my camera died at that point. after lala's set i left the place.
got home 430. some way to start the weekend.
again, thanks to everybody who made this possible for me. can't emphasize that enough

The Best School in the world should have this course....
*reposted from migoy lizada and countless others*
ADM 102: Introduction to Ateneo-La Salle Games
Thu/Sat/Sunday, 4:00 PM, Araneta Coliseum
Course Description
The course introduces the student-cheerer to the dynamics and principles of the Ateneo-La Salle rivalry. The course employs both theoretical and application dimensions. The application phase on the other hand requires the student to put into practice all the theoretical principles. These practices include, among others: effective skills in lining up for the games, cheering (pre-game, during the game, half-time and post-game), jeering, heckling, creating effective posters and banners for one's favorite players and posing and smiling for Fabilioh.com.

Course Requirements
Written Long Test will assess your memorization of the tradition and history of the Ateneo-La Salle rivalry. The test items consist of Multiple Choice questions and an evaluation of True or False statements.
Oral Exam. The student will randomly draw two cheers from a lot. The student must cheer/sing the cheers he picked. Afterwards, he must be able to explain the significance of the cheer/song. He must also be able to identify when these cheers/songs are used.
Practical Exam:. The student must line up for tickets. This is a pass or fail exam. If the student is able to acquire a ticket, he automatically gets an A. If he doesn't get any ticket, he must take the Make-Up Test.
Make-up Test: Negotiating with Scalpers. Students who wish to pass the first practical exam for the course but failed to do so must take the Make-Up test. The student must locate a scalper within the vicinity of Araneta Coliseum. This is not a pass or fail test. The student's grade depends on how he was able to acquire a good ticket with the lowest possible price. The better the ticket with lower ticket price, the higher the grade.
Final Exam: Students are required to cheer during the game. The grade depends on the voice quality and frequency of the cheering. The Ateneo standard grading system will be applied. Therefore the passing score for the Final Exam is 70%. Students who cannot stand up and cheer 70% of the time automatically fail the exam.
Bonus points are given to students who are able to convince others to cheer loudly, either through a well-articulated speech or forceful coercion. Extra points are also awarded to fans who make creative banners for their favorite players.
Written Long Test: 20%
Oral Exam: 20%
Practical Exam: 20%
Final Exam: 40%
Course Policies and Other Reminders
1. Plagiarism. Plagiarism is an extreme offense. Do not copy cheers from other schools.
2. Cellphone Use. Using your cellphone to place in bets is illegal. Do not get yourself into trouble.
3. Cuts. Once you are inside Araneta, you are not allowed to leave. You must watch all four quarters. Win or lose, you are not allowed to leave before the Song for Mary is sung. Doing so merits an automatic W for the course.
